Another year is behind us and 2024 is raring to go. 2023 has been a year of new records, from heatwaves, both marine and on land, as well as record breaking CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. But it has also been a year of progress, among other things the East Greenland Ice-Core Project reached bedrock in Greenland for the first time. So, before we take on the challenges and possibilities of a new year, let’s take a moment to look back on the year of 2023.

As the Global Tipping Points Report of 2023 was released at COP28 in Dubai, key recommendations were presented by Professor Tim Lenton.

Global CO2 emissions have increased from last year. This brings both emissions and the CO2 content in the atmosphere to a record high.

On the 16^th and 17^th of November many gathered at the Vilvite Center in Bergen to celebrate and honor an important figure in the scientific community. Another ERC Synergy Grant for Bergen, Norce and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research. The i2B - Into the Blue project looks into the past and forward to the future, and is a collaboration between research community in Trømsø, Bergen and Bremerhaven.
