Understanding climate
for the benefit of society

Pragallva Barpanda

I am generally interested in the fluid dynamics of Earth’s atmosphere including extratropical storm tracks and jet stream variability, tropical waves such as the MJO/Kelvin waves and the tropical-extratropical interaction.

My current research focuses on identifying the sources of uncertainty in climate predictions and projections of atmosphere blocking under global warming. I address these questions using simple theory, atmospheric models of varying complexity and analyzing climate model outputs such as the CMIP6 and ERA5 reanalysis dataset.
