I worked during my PhD on optimization methods with applications on data assimilation, and I now work as a post doctorate with the NERSC data assimilation team on super-resolution for data assimilation, that is increasing the resolution of observations thanks to machine learning in order to assimilate data of higher resolution. In particular this makes possible to run low resolution models (cheap in computation costs) and still benefit from high resolution observations.
